10 Year Blog Post for Waterfront Academy

Ten years. 3,652.5 days. 87,600 hours. That’s a lot of time, isn’t it? I am so grateful I have gotten to spend the last decade starting and growing Waterfront Academy into what it is today.

I sought out to create a unique school that isn’t offered anywhere else. A Spanish, dual-immersion Montessori school in the Catholic tradition. I am proud of my Latino heritage, the fact that I was raised Catholic, and I was eager to bring the Montessori method into the mix as well. I loved the self-directed, hands-on learning and collaborative play aspect of Montessori.

Waterfront Academy started with humble beginnings. We were the top floor of a church building and were crammed into a small space. I wondered, could we make this work? Make it work we did!

Here we are, 10 years later and thriving. We are thriving because of the wonderful teachers and staff who help keep our school running. We are thriving because of the parents who enroll their children in Waterfront Academy, standing firmly with us in our Spanish, Catholic tradition, Montessori school. We are thriving because of our alumni like Kai, who graduated with honors from high school and attends Howard University. We are thriving because of our current students, who are eager to learn and keep our teachers and staff going with their enthusiasm every day.

Most of all, we are thriving because of our deep faith. The last 10 years, we kept the faith, praying and working diligently to create our little community in this big city. I am so very thankful for the fact that Waterfront Academy is what it is today. We welcome you to join this wonderful school and help us celebrate the next 10 years.

Happy anniversary!
