Job Title: Extended Day Caretaker

Location: 924 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, D.C.

Job Type: Full-Time/Part-Time (depending on the number of subjects taught)

Reports To: Principal and Assistant Director

Salary: $18/hr to $20/hr commensurate with experience.

Position Overview:

Waterfront Academy, a Spanish immersion Montessori school rooted in the Catholic tradition, seeks dedicated and passionate Primary and Elementary Montessori Teachers. The ideal candidates will be committed to delivering a comprehensive Montessori education, incorporating the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum in both English and Spanish. These roles require a deep commitment to fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment where students can thrive academically, spiritually, and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

Montessori Curriculum Delivery:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver the Montessori curriculum in both English and Spanish, tailored to the developmental needs of Primary or Elementary students.
- Facilitate individualized learning experiences, allowing students to progress at their own pace.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Curriculum:
- Implement the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum, guiding students in their spiritual development and understanding of the Catholic faith.
- Deliver lessons and activities that integrate the Montessori approach with spiritual education.
Bilingual Instruction:
- Provide instruction and support to students in both English and Spanish, ensuring language development in both languages.
- Create an immersive bilingual environment that encourages students to communicate effectively in both languages.
Learning Environment:
- Maintain a safe, caring, and structured classroom environment that supports the emotional and physical well-being of all students.
  Promote a positive classroom culture that encourages respect, collaboration, and a love of learning.
Hands-On Learning:
- Explore and incorporate hands-on learning opportunities within the classroom and through outdoor activities.
- Design and facilitate experiential learning projects that allow students to engage with the curriculum in meaningful and practical ways.
Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Observe and assess student progress, providing feedback and support to help each student reach their full potential.
- Maintain accurate records of student development and communicate progress with parents and administration.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Work closely with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience for all students.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in Montessori education and bilingual instruction.

Qualifications:

Montessori teaching certification for Primary or Elementary levels (AMI/AMS or equivalent).
Experience with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum is highly preferred.
Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a nurturing and stimulating environment.
Passion for bilingual education and a commitment to the Montessori philosophy.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
Alignment with the school’s mission and values, including a commitment to the Catholic tradition.

Working Conditions:

The position involves working in a classroom setting with primary or elementary-aged children.
The role may require outdoor activities, field trips, and other hands-on learning experiences.
Teachers may need to lift and move educational materials and furniture as part of classroom setup and maintenance.
